The 'th' sound

Il y a deux sons 'th' en anglais

Le premier est appelé 'voiceless' ou 'soft' sound.

Symbole /θ/

    Le second est appelé 'voiced' ou 'hard' sound.

   Symbole /ð/

Pour dire le son /θ/

Commencer par prononcer le son /s/ (ex: sky)
puis recommencer ce son en sortant le bout
de la langue et en l'appuyant contre les
dents du haut.
Posez vos mains sur le cou au niveau des cordes
vocales: elles ne vibrent pas

Pour dire le son /ð/

Le procédé est le même mais en commençant par
prononcer le son /z/ comme dans zebra.
Prononcez ensuite ce son en mettant la langue
comme indiqué ci-contre.
Cette fois-ci vous devez sentir les vibrations
des cordes vocales.

Ecoutez la prononciation de ces deux sons

Our first sound will be 'soft th' which is /θ/ and the second sound will be 'hard th' which is /ð/

   Our first sound, the soft th, is for words like   'think' : /θɪŋk/
and the hard sound for   'this' /ðɪs/ 'that',   'them' /ðem/ ,   'they',    'those'
There are two words which have the same spelling :    mouth /maʊθ/ (nom: bouche)
   mouth /maʊð/ (verbe : articuler sans émettre de son)
